MY APPROACH
Finding a psychologist can be challenging. In part due to availability and in part due to the varied approaches used by different clinicians meaning you don’t really know what you’re signing up for. To help with the second part, here is an overview of my philosophy and approach:

Psychological difficulties can have many causes, however, I view the maintenance of most psychological problems as resulting from the avoidance of distress. My goal is not to directly eliminate difficult emotional states but to assist clients to develop a tolerance for discomfort and capacity to engage in meaningful behaviours despite this, facilitating a richer and more meaningful life.

My approach is primarily behavioural, and we will set clear, actionable goals at the beginning of our work together. A variety of psychological frameworks will be used to support these goals, with behaviour change being critical.
I work with clients who are ready for change and are open to developing the capacity to tolerate discomfort. I typically work within a short-to-medium timeframe, usually not seeing clients for longer than six months, and provide regular feedback to ensure the effectiveness of our approach.

If the above sounds like what you want from psychological input, please get in touch.

TYPES OF ISSUES ADDRESSED
I work with adults who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. This might include; anxiety, low mood, stress, OCD, adjustment difficulties, etc. If there are significant risk concerns, or your needs exceed this threshold it is likely that there are other services better suited to support you. If this is the case, I recommend that you approach your GP or health practitioner for assistance and referral to the appropriate service.
